Lake Flores
Lake Flores is one of the most beautiful lake which is owned by Indonesia. The lake is situated in the village of Moni, District Wolowaru, Ende, East Nusa Tenggara. Distance from Moni to the summit of Mount Flores about 13km or 30 minutes drive. Admission price for Flores Park Rp2.500 for person and Rp3.000 for motorcycles.
To get to the top of mountain, had to walk down the path of hundreds of trekking and climbing stairs. Trekking paths and steps to the shelter has been made with a neat and there is a signpost. Flores has three lakes. Uniquely, the three colors of the lake that change often. Sometimes dark green (Lake Tiwu Ata Polo), green tosca (Lake Tiwu Nua Muri Koo Fai), and black (Lake Tiwu Ata Mbupu).
Although many scholars have conducted research, to date not yet known exactly what causes discoloration of Lake Flores. A number of suspect, change the color of the water in Lake Flores gas pressure caused from volcanic activity, the refraction of sunlight, micro-biota, water, dissolved chemical substances (salt, iron, sulfate, and other minerals), and the reflection color of the walls and bottom of the lake. In addition, some say the increased content of iron (Fe) in water crater lake causing blackish red color, while the moss green color is possible because of the biota of certain types of moss.
According to the local belief, the colorful Lake Flores has the meaning of each and have a very powerful natural forces. They believe that change color in the three lakes was a sign of occurence of an event or even a natural disaster in this country.
Flores Lake consists of three lakes with the shapes, sizes, and colors are not the same. The three lakes are Tiwu Ata Polo (located far right), Tiwu Nua Muri Koo Fai (located in the center and most major), and Tiwu Ata Mbupu (separate location far, far left and the smallest). Of the three crater lakes, two lakes (Tiwu Nua Muri Koo Fai and Tiwu Ata Polo) located close together, while other lakes (Tiwu Ata Mbupu) some distance away.
Between Tiwu Nua Muri Koo Fai and Tiwu Ata Polo there were gaps in the form of a very narrow crater walls. From the geological point of view, the walls of the lake was the most labile. Formerly the separating wall is wide enough and can pass people. Now, the wall of separation is very narrow and cannot be skipped again. With the adjacent position, it is possible both lakes will be united again when an earthquake with a large scale.
