Singular and Plural Noun

1. Singular Noun (Kata Benda Tunggal)

Singular Noun adalah kata benda yang menunjukkan bahwa benda tersebut tunggal atau hanya satu. Pada umumnya singular noun selalu diawali oleh article (kata sandang) a atau an, khususnya untuk benda yang dapat dihitung dan belum diketahui secara pasti.

Yang termasuk dalam kata benda tunggal adalah semua kata benda yang tidak mengalami perubahan atau tidak mengalami penambahan s/es.

Contoh:

Book (buku); car (mobil); house (rumah); pencil (pensil); umbrella (payung); cat (kucing); banana (pisang); teacher (guru); soldier (tentara); lawyer (pengacara) dan lain-lain.

Apabila bentuk singular noun digunakan bersama dengan kata kerja, maka kata kerja yang digunakan adalah kata kerja tunggal, yaitu dengan penambahan s/es pada kata kerjanya. Atau dapat digunakan kata kerja bantu is dan was.

Contoh :

-          The dog under the chair eats meat.

= Anjing dibawah meja itu memakan daging.

-          My book is on the table.

= Bukuku ada di atas meja.

2. Plural Noun (Kata Benda Jamak)

Plural Noun adalah kata benda yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan bahwa benda tersebut lebih dari satu. Pada umumnya dibentuk dari kata benda tunggal dengan memberikan tambahan s/es pada kata bendanya.

Contoh :

Books (beberapa buku); cars (beberapa mobil); five pens (lima buah pensil); buses (beberapa bus) dan lain-lain.

Bentuk plural noun tidak disertai oleh article a atau an, tetapi dapat disertai oleh article the.

Contoh :

-          There are the books on table.

= Ada beberapa buku di atas meja.

Apabila bentuk plural noun digunakan bersama kata kerja, maka kata kerjanya harus dalam bentuk jamak, tidak mendapatkan tambahan s/es. Atau dapat digunakan kata kerja bantu are dan were.

Contoh :

-          He has five horses.

=Dia mempunyai lima ekor kuda

-          There are two pencils.

= Ada dua buah pensil.

           

Ada beberapa cara yang digunakan untuk membentuk plural noun (kata benda jamak) yaitu :

a.       Dengan menambahkan akhiran –s pada kata benda tunggal.

b.      Dengan menambahkan akhiran –es pada kata benda tunggal yang berakhiran dengan huruf –s, -ss, -x, -z, -ch dan –sh.

Box                -                  boxes               =          kotak

Bush               -                  bushes             =          semak

c.       Dengan menambahkan akhiran –es pada kata benda tunggal yang berakhiran dengan huruf –o

Mango            -                  mangoes          =          manga

Potato             -                  potatoes           =          kentang

Tornado          -                  tornadoes        =          angin topan

Catatan:

Ada beberapa kata benda tunggal yang berakhiran dengan huruf –o tetapi bentuk jamaknya hanya ditambah akhiran –s saja.

d.      Mengubah akhiran –y yang diawali oleh huruf mati (konsonan) pada kata benda tunggal menjadi akhiran –I dan kemudian ditambah –es

Enemy            -                  enemies           =          musuh

Apabila kata benda tunggalnya berakhiran dengan huruf –y yang diawali oleh huruf hidup (vokal), maka bentuk kata benda jamaknya cukup ditambah dengan akhiran –s.

e.       Mengubah akhiran –f atau –fe pada kata benda tunggal menjadi –ves pada kata benda jamak.

My Experience 3

The experience of being a dancer

I am join as a dancer when I’m 18 years old. This may arguably be late, because it's supposed to learn to dance since childhood. Because I am interested in all the arts of dance then I followed a dance studio in TMII. I know this studio from my mother. It used to be my mother never taught a dance to show seal Bunaken in North Sulawesi, precisely in Manado. Then I was introduced by a dance teacher who once taught my mother. Initially I was invited to the dance training. I asked to see how the training of a dancer. The first time I saw immediately the spirit and can not wait to join in this studio. In this workshop not only teaches teen dancers, but also the little dancer.

Early exercise my body still feels stiff. Not as flexible as the other dancers. I did not despair, I diligently exercise each week. Does not feel I had 2 months to follow dance exercise. My initial dance performances are held in the palace of the children. At that time I brought the piece Sriwijaya dance originating from southern Sumatra. For my first time performing in front of many people. Feeling nervous, tense, all the more so when've been on stage. With confidence I move my body follow the rhythm of music. As I am very proud of the Indonesian nation can preserve the culture of dance that is rarely preferred by teenagers.

After a few months I was getting mastered several types of dances. Like the saman dance, lenggang nyai, lenggang putri, Lenso dance, and sekapur sirih dance. There are so many lessons that I get in the studio. Not only learning, but the experience will not be forgotten. One of them is able to perform in the Tanah Airku theater when TMII birthday event. In addition I also appearing in four seasons hotel to fill the seminars. And no less memorable was performing in front of a cruise ship to welcome the tourists from various countries. Being a dancer is an experience not to be forgotten. We should be proud because they have an incredible culture compared with other countries.

My Experience 2

Vacation to Singapore

In October 2013 ago, me and my cousins ​​on vacation to Singapore. It was my first time experience of going on vacation to another country. Our goal here is to go to Universal Studios. Because the site is a vehicle for the game's biggest and most prominent. We had already bought tickets from Indonesia to no longer need to buy while there. Buying a ticket in his own country the price is much cheaper than when bought in Singapore. My plane arrived there at two in the afternoon. When we got there we went straight to the hotel to use the MRT. Although nearly two hours to find way out from this airport, finally we can get out too. How much admiration I saw this State. Countries with narrow land but already highly developed and well-arranged in terms of transportation and building.

My hotel is located in the Little India area. Once out of the MRT station, I also was amazed by this region. Because almost everyone I met was an Indian. I feel like being in the country of India . Distance of the MRT station not so far  so we decided to just walk to the hotel . Arriving at the hotel, we rested for a moment. Although still tired, we do not want to miss a little time to enjoy the atmosphere of this country. The first place I visited was the ION ORCHARD time. Where that place is a shopping mall with branded goods. They say this is a shopping paradise in orchard, because along this road lined large malls. After that we continued our journey from orchard to bugis street. This place if in Jakarta as Jatinegara. This place selling many various of souvenirs, clothing, accessories, and much more. After this we headed to ChinaTown. Because it was night, many stores are already closed. Finally we return to the hotel to rest.

The next day we went to sentosa island, where there was universal studios located. To get there we had to buy a train ticket for 4sgd. Imagine my amazement saw a globe that says universal studios. I do not want to miss any chance to take pictures there. Hours are shown at 10, but the studio has not opened a universal gate. We had to queue up to enter the gate. Once inside, my cousin and I immediately enjoyed the rides there. Although the sun is very hot but this does not make us discouraged. We keep the spirit of play into the afternoon. After a tired day in this place, we took time to eat. Do not forget we watch shows song of the sea. A dancing water show with musical and theatrical.

After watching the show we went back to the hotel and clean up the clothes were leaving the next day. The morning we checked out of the hotel and stopped at Mustafa center to buy souvenirs. After that we went to the Merlion to take pictures. This place is one of the State's mascot of Singapore. Having satisfied our pictures taken directly to the airport changi. Holiday is so short, I should go back to my country. Although very brief, but I am very satisfied and enjoy it. Not only that, I also got an important lesson from this country that can be replicated instantly back to Indonesia.
